Overtreated?
Two nights ago, I had a horrible low. It wasn’t that my BG was all that far south (only 47 mg/dl – I’ve been much lower), it was that once it hit me, it hit me like a giant bus.
I was shaky, dizzy, sweating, starving, and exhausted. I still don’t know which of these was the prevailing symptom at first, but I know what quickly took over: STARVING.
I did my usual juice box thing (I ALWAYS correct lows with a single juice box), but then I lost control. In the span of five minutes, I consumed:
- The aforementioned juice box
- 2 granola bar packages (with two in each package!)
- A handful of Sun Chips
- 1 glass of milk
By the time I was finished, I was so exhausted that I could barely keep my eyes open. Brian came home from work to find me on the bed surrounded by the carnage of my eating binge. If I hadn’t felt so shitty, it would have been really funny.
Actually, looking back, it’s pretty damn funny!

LOL @ the photo. Where do you find these photos for your blogs? They crack me up.
That is a great photo. I’ve actually done the same in Very Low States, left cabinets open, and sat on the floor to pout in waiting for sugars to rise. That’s when Suzi walked in the door… Oh what a scene to walk into after a long work day!
Those ‘starving’ lows do not hit me often, but when they do…..it’s crazy. Then, your high…sucks!
WOW…my daughter has episodes like too! She pleads for more to eat. Those lows always wipe her out. I know it might sound strange, but it’s reassuring to me as her mother to hear that other people get like that too. Sometimes I just never know what’s normal with this blasted disease.
When she was much younger, she had horrible gut wrenching lows. I described them a bit in this post:

I always thought everyone had lows like that and was shocked to learn that it wasn’t normal. It was a really rough time in our journey. Thankfully, her insulin pump saved the day!
Love your blog!
Haha! Yeah, I have definitely done that. Last week I had 2 cupcakes, chocolate milk, chips, and my daughters fruit snacks. Effectively cleaning out our kitchen of anything sugary. That Starving insatiable need to eat and get the blood sugar up and not feel crappy anymore is a crazy thing.
