What should I do?
So, I’ve been sick for a week. It started off as a really bad sore throat and quickly turned into (what I thought was) a typical head cold. But, there are a few things about this bug that are making me wonder what’s really going on. First, it’s been a full seven days and I still don’t feel better. Usually, the common cold doesn’t last this long, right? I mean, Brian started getting sick on Saturday, and he’s already better.
Second, I’m exhausted all the time. I have such limited energy that I can only do small tasks and after a few hours, I feel like I need a nap. I thought that I’d be fine going back to work today, but by 1:30, I had to come home. I’m just really tired.
Finally, I’m concerned about the cough aspect. I have a definite wheeze when breathing deeply, and overall, my chest feels tight. With all the talk of secondary infections with colds and the flu, I’m scared. I admit it.
As a diabetic, I have to be extra careful when I get sick. And I am. I got both flu vaccines (seasonal and H1N1). But, at what point should I seek care from my doctor? Is all of this enough to warrant an office visit? Seriously, I just don’t know. All I do know is that I still feel like shit.

I think if you are worried then you should see the doc. No use is worrying about something unless you know for sure so why not get it checked out!
BTW- I added your site to my blogroll. I hope that’s cool.
I called my PCP to get her thoughts. She definitely wants to see me tomorrow, so I guess I’m not a complete hypochondriac! Sometimes I feel like I overreact to this stuff. If nothing else, it will give me piece of mind. Thanks for your advice.
Totally cool with being added to your blogroll (well, as long as it’s ok if I do the same).
Hey Shannon, sorry to hear you’ve not been feeling well. I wondered why I hadn’t sen your usual flurry of activity. By now you’ve probably seen your PCP, and I’m hoping you haven’t just been diagnosed with pneumonia. BTW, I agree with the 3-day rule thing someone else posted about … if you still feel crappy after 3 days call the doc & let them decide if they want to see you or not. Let me know if you need anything, we don’t live so far apart that I can’t deliver supplies for a friend who’s a bit “under the weather” … and feel better real soon!
sorry … *seen … I can spell, really I can!
Thanks so much, Laura. I’m definitely on the mend now (thanks to some good antibiotics). I hope you’re able to stay healthy and avoid everything that’s going around!
